barely there

Someone asked me recently what I think of the lack of modesty in the City. This man's wife works in fashion. I didn't really have an answer. Immodesty is nothing new. Women have been shameless & proud of their bodies for centuries.
On the other hand.
What's totally new, and toxic in new ways, is average people projecting themselves dressed in nothing all over the internet. Posting pictures of yourself in your dorm room posing alone before the camera. Then 600 people have access to it via FB. People who didn't ask to see it. This is what's new, this sexualized self-projection online for the masses (not an audience of one), this visual avalanche of sultry pictures of people who might not normally cross our paths that way. Methinks we need to re-evaluate what "real interaction" is and what real relationships really are. We need to be the same in the flesh as we are online. People are not getting the attention and love they truly long for deep down, they are feeding fantasies and idealism that kills real interaction.
