Greatness

Center for Faith & Work, Redeemer Pres. Church

lecture by David Kim

"People don't come to NY to rest. Or for convenience, for backyards, or for fun. They come here to become great. When you come to NY, you can feel a sense of greatness."

Nietzsche speaks of the 'uber-human' which is compelled by ceaseless striving to be something we can never be. It is our prison. Because, he says
-God is dead
-the goal of life is greatness
(if you aren't smart enough, beautiful enough, savvy enuf, you just try harder. Get another degree, plastic surgery, or go to the gym every day, pump more iron.) Yet as human beings we are sinful, broken. We never arrive.

Yet, we are inherently great because we were created in the image of God. The desire for greatness has been in us from the beginning!!

Cease your striving, to be super-human / the über-human
Have a new (Biblical) vision: no matter how hard I work I will never be good enough or perfect, I need grace in my weaknesses.

(Am I ok with my weaknesses?)

You will never be great until you gaze at Jesus, who was fully human, & loved God with all that He was. He is at work to make us like Christ, in His own ability not to divorce head & heart.
